   G-858 MagMapper with AG114 DGPS

The Geometrics high sensitivity Cesium Vapor Magnetometer model G-858  MagMapper has been integrated with the Trimble ag114 GPS for single man-carry operation.  This superb duo provides unprecedented ability to perform magnetometer surveys without prior layout of the  survey grid, saving substantial time, effort and money.

Trimble Navigation, in conjunction with Geometrics, has produced the first commercially available nonmagnetic Differential GPS receiver for close-in magnetometer use.  The modified ag114-GPS is essentially an agricultural product that  uses subscription-based private differential correction services to calculate sub-meter positions in real-time.  Steering information to allowing users to survey on a predetermined grid is accomplished using the Parallel Swathing Option Lightbar. We have adapted this technology to provide sub-meter navigation and position fix of magnetometer survey data in real time.

Our MagMap96 data processing software then uploads the combined data from the magnetometer and linearly interpolates the positions, providing each magnetometer reading with its own Lat/Long or UTM coordinate location.  Subsequent plotting and analysis of the data with  geographical coordinate system is then provided by both MagMap96 and Surfer for Windows from Golden.

Differential Corrections are supplied by either the Racal or Omnistar satellite system, allowing  operation at most latitudes without the use of a basestation or  radio link!   This frees the operator from annoying loss of differential correction due to radio link dropouts caused by line of site interference.

The primary applications for this technology are environmental survey and mining exploration programs.  Because of the requirement for centimeter accuracy for some applications (such as archeology and UXO/EOD surveys) it may not be suitable for all operations.  Nevertheless, it represents an easy upgrade path for existing and new G-858 users who wish to expand their survey capabilities and minimize costs.
